What is a Glacier

Picture taken from: http://www.ece.cmu.edu/~koopman/dsn08/excursion.html

A glacier is a huge mass of ice that flows downhill, a little like a river. Glaciers flow much more slowly than rivers. But, because they are solid they cut through the landscape more easily, gouging deep U-shaped valleys as they carry rocks and soil along with them.
