- The Matterhorn stands 4,478 metres above sea level and is Switzerland's most famous land mark and is considered to be the most beautiful mountain in the world.
- The Matterhorn has two peaks connected by a short small ridge between them.
- The Matterhorn originally came from Africa because 90 million years ago the African continental plate slid over the European plate. It was these rocky masses surging upwards that created the Matterhorn.
- The Matterhorn is surrounded by many glaciers. The mountain's four distinctive faces were carved by glaciers and ice.
- Every year many climbers try to get to the top. The Matterhorn was first conquered on 14th July 1865 by seven men lead by English man called Edward Whymper. Four of the men died.
- Thousands of people visit the area each year to ski on the glacier.
- The Toblerone chocolate bar was inspired by the shape of the Matterhorn.

I am going back to Zermatt at Easter 2009
